Meet the Team
Dr. Matthew Allen, Chiropractor
For years I suffered with headaches. It was a constant, nagging pain everyday of my life for over 10 years.
I knew I wanted to be a doctor at a very young age. You see, I was in and out of the hospital 27 times before I was 10 years old. Not a fun way for a kid to spend their early days, but for me I learned a lot about what health really was and what it really wasn’t. It wasn’t until I was in college that I realized Chiropractic was the best way for me to fulfill my goal to help others with their health challenges… Naturally!
My Chiropractic Journey
I attended Life University of Chiropractic in Marietta, Georgia. The coursework was very comprehensive with studies focusing on neuroanatomy, advanced biochemistry, clinical nutrition, physical rehabilitation, neurology and human physiology, diagnosis, chiropractic adjusting techniques.
You should know that I don’t heal anyone of anything. What I do is perform a specific BioStructural adjustment to restore alignment and function to the spine, reconnecting the brain and body, and the body responds by healing and regulating itself. It’s as simple as that!
As for my headaches…they have been gone for more than 10 years. However, I continue to get adjusted, because with a healthy diet, exercise and regular BioStructural care, I have a wonderful Quality of Life and it continues getting better. I hope to help you get healthy and stay healthy for the rest of your life and fulfill YOUR purpose in life!

I am a farm girl from central Illinois. My family landed in Oklahoma when I was 16 and I graduated from Coyle high school in 1987. After completing my basics at OSU, I transferred to the Langston University Nursing Program. With more than 30 years of experience working in nursing and health and fitness, my search for the most monumental contribution to therapeutic body work finally landed me here at Sunrise Health Institute.
My Journey
I have been a regular patient of Dr. Matt’s here at Sunrise Health Institute since nearly the beginning of his practice. His beautiful wife Kember (girlfriend at the time), told me he could help me with my horrendous migraines and allergies. My improvement was so drastic that regular adjustments remained a priority and created a longing to be able to help others in a similar way.
In 2012, Dr Matt and a visceral manipulation therapist inspired me to begin learning massage therapy and body work. Eleven years prior, I battled a terminal diagnosis of cancer and won! Deep in my battle, my desire to help others win intensified exponentially. This led me to become a certified personal trainer and open multiple women’s fitness centers. My interest in holistic healing was always distracting me and I was continuing to have nightly dreams of doing bodywork, nutritional counseling and personal coaching. I listened to my intuition, followed my passion and enrolled in my 1st myoskeletal therapist course. Here is where I found my forever love of bodywork as the way to help people heal and have quality lives. My experience here with Dr Matt has fostered a great perspective to view the body and help release associated pain patterns.
Personal
I am blessed to be married to my wonderful husband, Danny, since 1988. Together we have 7 beautiful children and 16 wonderful grandchildren, as well as an amazing birch family. We live on our farm west of Stillwater with a variety of animals.

I was raised in Perkins, Oklahoma, which is about 10 miles south of Stillwater. I graduated from Perkins-Tryon High School in 2009, and in May 2013 I graduated from Oklahoma State University with a degree in Business Management and minors in Finance and Marketing. I am the Office Manager at Sunrise Health Institute. I have been working here since May 2009. I love my job so much and am so blessed to get to be working with such great people. I enjoy getting to see our patients each day and knowing that our office is making a difference in their lives!
Before I started working at Sunrise Health Institute, I was a patient for about 9 months. I started coming to the office my senior year of high school because I had been having constant back pain for a few years and my shoulders were noticeably uneven. Also, I had suffered from severe allergy and asthma problems my whole life. Since coming to Dr. Matt and receiving regular adjustments, my posture has improved greatly, and I rarely have problems with allergies or asthma.
My overall health and well-being are much better! I cannot express how thankful I am for this!
Outside of work I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, watching my favorite TV shows and movies, spending time outside, taking care of my pets, and sports. I also really enjoy sharing with others about how they can bring a natural approach to healthcare into their homes with doTERRA Essential Oils and the huge difference those can make in everyone’s life!
Sabra Smith
Hi, my name is Sabra Smith and I have worked for Dr Matt off and on since 2008. I have been very happily married to my husband Tom for 30 plus years and we have two wonderful children, Mike and Megan who are married and live in Mustang and Stillwater, respectively. I was a patient at Sunrise Health Institute for several years before I began working here. Before I began care I was a patient of a traditional chiropractor and had sciatic nerve issues. However, once I started seeing Dr. Matt my health greatly improved. I have not had any sciatic pain for several years. Receiving adjustments on a regular basis has helped not only with feeling better physically, but also my allergies have greatly improved, and I rarely get sick. Dr. Matt IS our general care physician.
I love my job, the people I work with, and our patients! My husband and I are very active in our church and outside of the office I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, and playing with our pups – Charley Brown and Sadie.

I grew up in El Dorado Springs, MO where I graduated from high school in 1995. I then attended Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO where I met my husband Scot. After graduating we moved to Southern California where we spent 10 years in ministry. While in California we had 3 children, Kylee born in 2002, Myka in 2004, and Trace in 2006. In 2010 we moved to Stillwater to work at Sunnybrook Christian Church. My husband is one of the ministers there and I teach at Sunnybrook Preschool and Mother’s Day Out. I started working at Sunrise Health Institute in February of 2020.
During college I injured my back and have had back issues ever since. Leading up to working at Sunrise Health Institute I was experiencing back pain that interfered with my daily activities and sleep. After a few months of getting regular adjustments I started noticing an improvement in how I felt. My overall health is better and I have a greater range of movement with my back and little to no pain.
I enjoy working at Sunrise Health Institute and am thankful to work with such a caring and fun staff!

I was born and raised in Yale, a small town east of Stillwater. I attended Oklahoma State University for my undergrad education, and graduated from OU Health Science Center with my Master’s in Physical Therapy. I specialized in Pelvic Rehabilitation, and went on to help women and children with pelvic floor dysfunctions. My husband and I settled in Owasso, OK where we welcomed our first son. When he was about 6 months old I felt God pulling me to stay home with him full time, and my husband felt called into a new career. We took a leap of faith, sold our home, and set out on an entirely new chapter traveling across the country for his job in welding. We followed his job to multiple states over the next several years, but recently moved back to the Stillwater area and built a home outside of town. When I am not at work I enjoy homeschooling, watching my boys play sports, and gardening.
I followed the nudge from God to step back into the practice of helping people on their wellness journey. I cannot imagine a better place to do that than Sunrise Health Institute. I believe our approach to correcting biostructural alignment is hugely beneficial to healing the way God intended. My background in physical therapy, particularly pelvic floor dysfunction, allows me a deep understanding of how important the core and pelvis are for stabilization and optimal function. Sunrise Health Institute has been a blessing to me in so many ways, and I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this team!
